Johari literally means jeweller. In Jaipur's Johari Bazaar, shopfronts glitter under pink arches, and every second counter is a riot of enamel, kundan and jhumkas.

Market tip
If the enamel looks the same colour in sunlight and shop light, it's good enamel.

What our buyers look for

  • Even, glossy enamel with no pinholes
  • Kundan that sits flush in its setting
  • Jhumkas light enough for a full night
  • Colours that work beyond red and green

We start early, before the lanes fill. The best counters are the small ones near Bapu Bazaar, where pieces are still enamelled in the workshop upstairs and the owner will tell you exactly which colours are hardest to fire.

Jaipur is where we find colour. Lilac and violet meenakari, soft kundan that catches light without shouting, jhumkas with fringes that move half a second after you do. It is wedding-season jewellery that we edit for the way you actually dress — lighter, wearable, and happy with denim as much as a lehenga.

Out of every fifty pieces we pick up here, one makes it to Nemara.
